Dr. Jon Belford, Clinical PsychologistDr. Belford is a clinical psychologist providing psychotherapy and coaching for adults, couples and adolescents. He holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA.
He works with adolescents, individuals and couples and treats a broad array of issues. "My style is fairly interactive; I'm directive when helpful but experienced enough to know when to stay out of the way. I work towards helping patients explore important aspects of their lives, ways of thinking, relationships, strengths and obstacles towards optimal living. Based on this understanding, we collaborate to identify concrete steps that will shift less optimal patterns into a positive direction." In addition to private practice Dr. Belford has taught graduate courses on psychotherapy and trauma, facilitated groups supporting parents of children with ADHD and held positions at Oakland Children’s Hospital, San Francisco Juvenile Justice Center and several adult community clinics where he treated a broad range of issues in diverse populations. He has spent over five years participating in several research studies seeking to better understand mechanisms of change through the psychotherapy process at the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group, a research and training center dedicated to developing and furthering our understanding the of psychotherapy process.
